Safety

Your safety comes first, and it’s always free

Dating should feel exciting, not risky. These are the protections every Amara member gets, from day one, without paying a kobo.

Verification

Show people it’s really you

Take a quick live face check in the app, whenever you’re ready. It confirms a real person is there, then compares your face with your profile photos. Pass, and your profile shows a verified badge.

  • It’s optional and takes about 10 seconds. You can see people, like, match and chat whether or not you’ve verified.
  • If the check can’t be sure, try again with clearer photos (up to 5 times a day). A person can check your scores and give you more attempts.
  • Look for the verified badge. If someone doesn’t look like their photos, report them.

Reporting and blocking

Speak up in seconds

Report or block from any profile, photo or message. When you report someone, we block them for you too. They’re never told who reported them.

  • Blocking works both ways: neither of you can see or message the other.
  • Reports about someone who may be under 18, or about threats, go straight to the front of the queue.
  • If several people report the same profile, it’s hidden from Discover until our team has reviewed it.
  • People we ban for serious harm can’t simply sign up again.

What you can report

  • Fake profile or scam
  • Asked me for money
  • Harassment or bullying
  • Nudity, sexual content, or buying or selling sex
  • May be under 18
  • Threats or violence
  • Hate speech
  • Wants to move to another app to pay or chat
  • Spam or advertising
  • Something else

Share My Date

Let someone you trust know where you’ll be

Meeting a match for the first time? Share My Date sends your plans to a friend or family member by SMS.

  1. Open Share My Date from the Safety Center in the app.
  2. Choose who you’re meeting, the place and the time.
  3. Add a friend or family member’s phone number.
  4. We text them the details, so someone you trust knows where you’ll be.

Scam protection

Built to stop romance scams early

Most romance scams follow the same script. Amara is designed to interrupt it.

Money-request warnings

When a message looks like a request for money, airtime or gift cards, you see a warning with a quick way to report it. Someone who tries it across several chats is sent to our team.

Contact details wait

Phone numbers, links and social handles can’t be shared until you’ve both sent 3 messages, which slows down people who rush you off the app.

Look for the badge

A live face check is hard to pass with stolen photos. The verified badge shows who has passed one, so look out for it.

Safety Center

Tips from the Safety Center

The same advice you’ll find in the app’s Safety Center, any time you need it.

  • Never send money

No matter the story — a sick relative, a stuck delivery, an “investment” — never send money, airtime or gift cards to someone you met here. Report anyone who asks.

  • Stay on Amara until you’ve met

Scammers rush to move chats to WhatsApp or Telegram, where we can’t protect you. Get to know people here first.

  • Meet in public, and tell someone

First dates belong in busy public places. Use Share My Date to text a friend who, where and when.

  • Get yourself there and back

Arrange your own transport and keep your phone charged. You can leave at any time.

  • Look for the verified badge

It means they’ve passed a live face check against their photos. If someone looks different from their photos, report them.

  • Trust your instincts

If something feels off, it probably is. Block and report — they’ll never know it was you.
