Draft for legal review. This document is a working draft. It has not yet been reviewed by a lawyer and is not yet in force. Details in square brackets will be confirmed against the live website before launch.

The short version

  • The Amara website uses a small number of cookies.
  • Some are strictly necessary: the website can’t work properly without them, so they don’t need your consent.
  • Analytics cookies (from PostHog) are used only if you say yes in our cookie banner. If you say no, or ignore the banner, they are not set.
  • We do not use advertising or tracking cookies, and we don’t let advertisers place cookies on amaradating.com.

This policy is about the website at amaradating.com. The Amara app on your phone doesn’t use cookies; it keeps your sign-in in your phone’s secure storage. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal data in general.

What cookies are

Cookies are small text files a website saves in your browser. Similar technologies, such as your browser’s local storage, work in much the same way, and this policy covers them too. We call them all “cookies” here.

Third parties on our pages

  • Paystack, on its own pages only. Payments are made on Paystack’s secure payment page, which may set its own cookies to process your payment and prevent fraud. These are covered by Paystack’s privacy and cookie policies. Nothing from Paystack runs on our pages.
  • Cloudflare Turnstile. On our checkout sign-in, account deletion and contact forms, Cloudflare checks that you’re a person and not a bot (see the table). Its check loads only when you start filling in one of those forms.

What we don’t do

  • No advertising cookies or retargeting.
  • No social media tracking pixels.
  • We don’t sell or share cookie data with advertisers.
  • Analytics are used only to improve the website, never to build a profile of you for ads.

Changing your choice

You can change your mind at any time:

  • Use the Cookie settings link at the bottom of every page of our website to accept or decline analytics cookies. If you decline after accepting, we stop using analytics cookies and remove the ones we set.
  • You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings. If you block strictly necessary cookies, parts of the website, such as checkout and account deletion, may not work.

Changes to this policy

If we add or change cookies, we will update this page and, where your consent is needed, ask you again.
